XPS 16 Voice Typing

XPS 16 9640

XPS 16 9640

I am having a problem with the voice typing launcher on Windows 11 and my Dell XPS 16 laptop. I've used the Windows+H key to initiate voice to text when filling in text boxes or Word documents. On other laptops when I press the voice circle icon it immediately starts. On this laptop when I press the microphone the voice launcher box freezes. Then I have to cancel it out and then restart it and it seems to work. But it's flaky because sometimes the microphone does not register at all. I do not have this problem using the Windows speech recognition software product which is being discontinued in September. I don't know if there's a conflict with the Dell audio drivers or perhaps a microphone Cirrus driver or what but it is extremely annoying and needs to be fixed. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers to no avail. My guess is that it is a driver incompatibility problem that is causing the initial  freezing.  I'm also using an XPS15 which has never had this problem before but it uses Realtek drivers. I'm hoping that someone from Dell can pass this along to the engineers to try to find a fix.

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them.  Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.
