XPS 15 9570, processor fan error, which fan to replace?

Hello all,

I started noticing my fans were getting louder on my laptop (Dell XPS 15 9570) once I started using my VMs again after not needing them for a couple years. Then, I started getting the a "Critical Error Message" on boot up after the computer ran diagnostics. The error was "Fan - The (Processor Fan) failed to respond correctly."

The error message screen shows the following info:

Critical Error Message
Version: Build 4400.13 UEFI ROM
<Private data removed from public view. DELL-Admin>
Error Code: 2000-0511
Validation Code: 100834
Fan - The (Processor Fan) failed to respond correctly.

I googled this issue and found that it can fixed by updating certain settings in the BIOS (which is up to date). However, I've had this laptop for 6 years now and I decided I would like to replace the fan. So, I ordered one from Dell for my make and model (Dell XPS 15 9570). The problem is that I did not realize I had 2 processor fans. Does anyone know how to tell which one is failing? Do I need to replace both?

There is some info on Dell support forum that say the fans and heat-sink are a single part. This is not the case for me. I have already recieved the part and it is just a single fan.

The motherboard has a processor in the upper-middle area connected to a heat-sink that goes to 2 fans, it looks like this photo: https://guide-images.cdn.ifixit.com/igi/KVZHHmymMGCjCZTD.medium

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I would like to mention that the laptop currently functions fine. The processor area at  the bottom of the laptop gets a little warm but not too bad. The last few days the fan hasn't even been loud but every time I boot up the machine I still get a diagnostics test run with the same error.

The left side fan is the CPU fan.  The right hand one is the GPU fan.

@ejn63 Thank you. I can also now see that the two fans have slightly different shapes too, so there was really only one way to do it anyway.
