DVD Drive doesn't work

Inspiron 5570

Inspiron 5570

I have an inspiron 15" 5570 model with windows 11 OS.  When I put a dvd in the drive tray and it closes, nothing comes up to play it.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you're trying to playback a DVD Video, you can try using MPC-HC, which is a free light-weight media player. VLC is another option as well. Otherwise, most programs that support DVD playback will need to be purchased due to licensing costs of the encoder.

I'd like to get the built in dvd working.  Could the laptop just not be recognizing the drive?  How would I figure that out?

@MATTIMIS If the optical drive isn't showing up under This PC, enter the BIOS and make sure it is enabled. If it's enabled but not being detected, the drive is probably bad. If it is enabled and is showing up in both the BIOS and This PC, but won't read a disc, it can be anything from a bad drive, improperly configured drivers, or a defective/incompatible/un-finalized disc.

As mentioned before, playing a Video DVD requires a program with a compatible DVD decoder. Without it, all you will be able to do is view the files on the disc.
