Dell V505 & V505w All-In-One (PRODUCT) RED™ Printer owners thread (W7)

Please follow the instructions below and then tell me what happens.

First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java

I recommend that you use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings to get the best communications between the printer and all the computers.

Disconnect the printer.

Uninstall the printer.

If using Windows 7 also try...Manual Printer Driver Removal

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP/Vista/Windows 7 32-bit drivers

XP/Vista/Windows 7 64-bit drivers

Other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on). Please make sure your computer is online when installing the drivers.

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

If using Windows 7, use the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode.

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility Vista SP2. Then right click on the drivers, left click run as administrator and follow the on screen instructions. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

Hello, my brother in law recently installed Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron 1525 and I have had numerous issues with things working properly, including my Dell v505w printer. I have tried following your directions but when I download the driver suggested all that happens is that the Dell Driver Download Manager installs on my computer but then a pop up saying "There are no files to download. Please go to Drivers and Downloads" appears and when I hit OK the whole thing disappears. I have tried numerous times to download this driver and the same thing happens. When I go to the file's location it is not an extractable file or anything. Just the same run-around with the Download Manager. Please Help! I cannot find the disk that came with the printer, which is odd because I save EVERYTHING that comes with my computer equipment. I am so fed up with Windows 7!

caitieg,

You need to download the files in internet Explorer, in your browser. Your problem is with the Dell Download Manager.

How to by-pass the Dell Download Manager

You will need to be online and the drivers should update to Windows 7 for you.

BRAND NEW SONY VAIO - FACTORY INSTALLED 64 BIT

Dell V505 - Purchased in 4/09 - Now out of warranty

I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything - these links have all  been attempted - there's a new error every time!

I AM NOT GOING TO PAY $59 to FIX A $79 PRINTER - Support is AWFUL

Your Commercial sales team will not get the 20 server order I have on my desk.  - That's $640k, plus the SAN they will never see - too bad, the poweredge 2970 was going to be our primary in the Virtual environment.  This support is AWFUL - I've made my last Dell purchase ever, and so has my company.

WHY CANT YOU JUST PUT UP LINKS FOR DRIVERS!!

The download manager is WORTHLESS - no matter how many times I've added drivers, when I run it - 'there are no files on your list'

Now the only thing on the start menu under Dell is to Uninstall the 505, but it freezes

Right click on properties - Freezes laptop

This was used 10 times and NOW - NOTHING

I have WASTED 5 hours - WHY NOT JUST PRODUCE DRIVERS FOR THE ACTUAL OS BASED ON MICROSOFT!!???

Sounds silly I know - they only have 90% market share for home computers -

 Mercts,

Windows 7 can sometimes be a problem. Some people unchecked the biodirectional box and got their printer to work and some need it checked.

Is your Windows 7 64-bit system and upgrade or did it come with Windows 7?

Make and model of your computer and operating system helpful and how you're trying to connect the V505 printer.

Dell V505 - Acquired 4/2009

Brand New Sony Vaio - Win 7 64 bit factory installed - purchased 11/09

Now there is a 'troubleshoot error' and when I try and view properties or remove the Dell to reinstall for the 23rd time, it completely freezes.

I have ZERO problems with any other application, program, hot fix, etc - JUST DELL

The only option in Start Menu is to uninstall - but it freezes up

Right Click on Properties - Freezes Control Panel

WHY CANT DELL JUST PUT LINKS UP WITH THE DRIVERS!!
The download manager is worthless - no matter how many lists I make or times I save them when I'm logged in and all is perfect, the error CONTINUALLY shows up 'no files selected'.

This is just horrendous - I used this thing 8 times in 14 months, and now there is no SUPPORT - Those damn people want me to pay $59 to fix an $80 Printer!!

ITS TERRIBLE  - I am beyond angry with this thing - wasted 5 hours today install this, install that, fix with .Net, blah blah blah

JUST PUT OUT DRIVERS THAT ARE COMPATIBLE WITH MICROSOFT!!  HOW FRICKING HARD IS THAT ??

THEY ONLY MAKE 90% of the OS Market for home computers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone want to by a Dell V505?  Its hardly been used

Rick,

Thank you for putting up that post! I just updated to Windows 7 and got the error messages that everyone talks about. I searched the Dell web site today (more than a year after you posted) to update the driver for my Dell V505w printer, and could not find the latest (Windows 7-compatible) driver. Thanks to you, I got it!

PudgyOne,

A week ago I got my two year old computer back after having to have the hard drive replaced. The only major thing that had not been replaced was the info for the printer, a Dell V505.

I have been struggling for several days to reload the drivers according to all the online instructions (except yours) without success.

I would encourage everyone facing this problem to follow the uninstall instructions you posted 11-29-2009 AND your driver download instructions immediately above. The choice of Vista SP2 is what made all the difference.

Thank you for your wisdom. You are a gem! My stress level has lowered considerably. Ahhhhhhh.

Rick,

I did followed all the instructions above (uninstalling, reinstalling, compatibility mode).  When I try to install I get to the screen connect with USB cable, and on the next screen the next button is not clickable.  I unplug and re-plug the USB and the computer dings and the little windows box says "Device not recognised".

I called Dell earlier and no luck after hours on the line.

Any idea what I should do?

Thanks,

Jon

Jon Ramsey,

Was your computer upgraded to Windows 7?

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.

Make sure the printer is not usb cable connected.

Start, control panel, programs and features, Dell V505w Printer, uninstall.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

With the computer online, insert the printer disk and install the printer, then follow the instructions.

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.
