Problem installing Ubuntu 20.04 on Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7630
Hi,
I have recently bougth a Dell Inspiron 16 Plus (7630).
-Processor: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13620H
-SSD: NVMe PM9B1 NVMe Samsung 1024GB
I work with RoS Noetic and so I should install ubuntu 20.04 in dual boot with Windows 11, but when I run the installer I am not able to find my SSD, moreover the "wifi step" in the installer is missing. I have already tried to turn off BitLocker, Fast boot and SecureBoot, I use also the ubuntu option "nvme_load=YES ", but it is still not working.
There is no ACHI option in the BIOS.
can somebody help me?

Hi corsesaur,
most current linux comes with kernel 5.x, which cannot handle this new hardware until now. I've had the same issue like you. No wifi and no nvme storage found. I downloaded linux mint 21.2 !edge!
This is a pre release with kernel 6.2. Than it works with secure boot, nvme and wifi as expected.
For now I just use the live usb boot image. I'm not sure about uefi and bitlocker to shrink and move on disc and what will happen when grub will get a part of efi partition. I ask some of my windows gurus tomorrow how it works, that I dont crash the preinstalled windows.

Hi everyone
I have solved installing Ubuntu on a external ssd and, through another pc (because wi-fi does not work), update the kernel with linux-liquorix. Finally I have cloned the partitions on my NVMe.
Run ubuntu in with "nomodeset" option and install linux-firmware, NVIDIA driver and firmware-sof package. It works for me

@ernsth I have been looking for hours, even days, looking for a solution to this. We thought we were going to have to send laptops back and get different models and Dell support was clueless on this. I guess I never noticed the EDGE version of Linux Mint before. I installed that and it solved it for us too! Thank you so much!! If I could give you more than one thumbs up, I would!!

Sorry for late reply. I also found it at a quite hidden place. Today I checked again and linux mint shows it now on the common download page at the bottom. https://linuxmint.com/download.php

I also can suggest Zorin Linux. Looks very well and comes with kernel 6.2 as well. So nvme is no problem...

Install ubuntu 20.04 on an external hard disk and than boot it through another pc because with Dell Inspiron 16 Plus the wifi does not appear. Once you have internet connection you can install linux-liquorix 6.x kernel (https://liquorix.net/). Now Ubuntu 20.04 should work on your Dell Inspiron.
It was not the case for me, I was able to use it only booting it with 'nomodeset' option. If it is the case also for you, than use 'nomodeset' and install linux-firmware (http://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux-firmware/), NVIDIA driver and firmware-soft package (http://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/restricted/f/firmware-sof/, for audio problem). Now it should work perfectly.
You can clone the partition of Ubuntu from your SSD/HDD on your NVMe, for example using Clonezilla (https://clonezilla.org/downloads.php)

@corsesaur Hi, I don't get what you said and I am facing the same problem. Can you please explain the steps in a bit more detail? Like I have a bootable USB Drive containing Ubuntu 20.04. How should I proceed after that?
