m16 R2, stutters a lot when gaming on battery

Brand new model that was just released with the highest model Core Ultra 7, 32GB ram, GF 4070. Runs great when plugged in. But if I try to play a game when running on battery, it runs horrible. Constant stuttering and lagging. Even if I switch it into performance power mode, with fans blasting, no improvement.

Already had a problem with it randomly freezing, which seems to be a longstanding issue that's been going on years (found 3-4 year old forum posts) with SupportAssist. Uninstalled that and that fixed the freezing. But still really crummy gaming performance on battery.

Whole point of a gaming LAPTOP is to be able to play games when I'm mobile, right? So surely there must be something wrong here that's causing the poor performance. I haven't gone in and tweaked or really reviewed any of the advanced power settings, assumed Dell knew what they were doing when they built them so the laptop would run optimally. But maybe I'm wrong there, don't know.

Any suggestions?

No gaming notebook is going to run games on battery alone.  They can run on battery, yes (but that's not a primary consideration in the design), but you won't be gaming at anywhere near top speed on battery.  You need to cut back the power consumption to match what a battery can deliver.  The GPU in your system by itself needs 186W of power under an average load -- add the CPU and you're well over 200W.

The power supply for your system can deliver 280W, which allows the system  to run at high speed.  The battery would only run for 20 minutes, if it could in fact deliver that much power without overheating (it can't).

So, the system is portable -- but gaming on battery?  That isn't going to happen with anything remotely demanding.
